Gangamma Jathara is among Tirupati's most distinctive folk observances. Every May, the city's streets become part of a sacred narrative told through public announcements, ritual costumes, offerings and shared processions.ప్రతి మే నెలలో జరిగే గంగమ్మ జాతర తిరుపతి జానపద సంప్రదాయానికి ప్రత్యేక గుర్తు. చాటింపు, వేషాలు, మొక్కులు, ఊరేగింపులతో నగరం భక్తిమయమవుతుంది.
Its central folklore remembers Gangamma confronting the oppressive Palegadu. Devotees take on distinctive forms as an act of memory, participation and prayer—not simply spectacle. Dappu beats carry the public announcement that the sacred Jathara has begun.డప్పుల మోతతో గంగమ్మ జాతర ప్రారంభమైందని పట్టణమంతా చాటింపు చేస్తారు.
The 2026 dates are documented by contemporary reporting and TTD. The oral story's stages, public Veshalu and annual schedules are related but not identical; some sources count Chatimpu, Sapparalu and Perantalu differently.

The first of the principal public disguises moves through the streets like a wandering ascetic. Devotees shoulder tall, bright, tiered structures resembling miniature gopurams and carry them to the shrine. Gangamma is worshipped as the sister of Lord Venkateswara. TTD's customary gift carries silks and auspicious articles in procession from Sri Govindaraja Swamy Temple. Turmeric, kumkum, sarees, pongal and other offerings bring family vows into the shared festival. The Jathara begins with Chatimpu, a public announcement accompanied by powerful dappu percussion.
