01ABOUT THE TEMPLE

A Mother to the city. A living home of faith.

In the heart of Tirupati, Sri Tataiahgunta Gangamma is revered as the Grama Devatha — the guardian goddess whose blessing is sought for families, neighbourhoods and community life.

Her temple is a place of regular prayer, vows, offerings and gratitude. The annual Gangamma Jathara makes this living devotion visible through processions, folk Veshalu, music and shared ritual memory.

The story of this shrine is told through devotional memory and documented historical records. Both matter, but they are not the same kind of evidence.

01
Traditional account

The remembered Tataiahgunta

A local account links a tank, its place-name and nearby Gangamma worship with sixteenth-century Tirumala Thathacharyulu. This is an attributed tradition, not a verified founding year.

02
1894 / 1918

A documented architectural trail

The Census of India town survey cites an 1894 district account describing the deity without a built temple, and reports a renovation attributed to K. Ratnavelu Mudaliar in 1918.
